Screening & Discussion – “Aiken’s James Mathewes Legaré”

Screening and Discussion
“To Have a Name Worth Owning: Aiken’s James Mathewes Legarè” Produced and Directed by George Wingard

Born in Charleston, South Carolina, James Mathewes Legarè moved with his family to Aiken, hoping the drier climate would help mitigate symptoms associated with a diagnosis of consumption. Focusing on drawing, painting, writing, and inventing, Legarè strived for fame but never quite reached that goal in his lifetime. This film will shed light on his short yet industrious life and bring attention to both his name and achievements.

Following the film will be a Q&A session with Dr. Tom Mack, USC Distinguished Professor Emeritus who served for 39 years on the faculty of the USC Aiken, and with the film’s producer/director, George Wingard.

Free and open to the public.
