Their Story
After moving to Blackville, Madeline and Rich Olsen dreamed of opening a small business in this culturally rich town. They envisioned a place where the community could gather, connect and create lasting memories. Yellow House Coffee aims to be that special spot, fostering conversations and good times over a shared love for coffee. The shop actively promotes the Blackville Area Historical Society to help engage the community with the town’s rich history and is involved in the Blackville Downtown Development Association to help contribute to the future of Blackville.
#FunFact: Yellow House Coffee is located next to and named after the historic Simon Brown House. Built in 1849, this house was one of three buildings in Blackville to be spared by Sherman’s Troops during the Civil War. As the story goes, Union troops began to make their way towards the house, but when they saw Simon Brown’s wife waving a Masonic flag from the second story porch a sympathetic officer ordered the house to be spared. Today, this private residence still stands with its original floors, 14ft ceilings and crown molding.
