Veterans Memorial Trail
Location:
Parallel to US Hwy 78 on the berm
City:
Bamberg
Running parallel to US Highway 78 along a decommissioned railway, this block-long paved trail honors the contributions of those who have served our country with memorials dedicated to each branch of the U.S. Armed Forces.
Revolutionary War Plaza
In 2026, with support from the South Carolina American Revolution Sestercentennial Commission, Bamberg County added this plaza to celebrate America’s 250th anniversary. This expansion of the trail includes plaques honoring all recorded individuals serving from the Orangeburgh District, with special recognition to those whose stories were often overlooked. This remarkable memorial stands as a lasting tribute to and reminds us that the fight for freedom was carried by people from many backgrounds, united by a shared commitment to the birth of our nation. The plaza also includes the “Back Country Patriots” Monument created by sculptor Brad Spencer. The monument was constructed from about 250 bricks and depicts two Patriots, one Black and the other White, standing back-to-back in quiet vigilance, each supporting the other.
