The Chalk Mine

The Chalk Mine is a walking-only, nine-hole par-three course, range, and practice facility built in partnership between USC Aiken and First Tee – Aiken. Thoughtfully routed through a former chalk mine and designed by Jim McNair, Jr., the course blends rustic character with strategic shot-making. Though short in length, firm greens, forced carries and dual flag locations reward precision and creativity, making every walk both challenging and memorable.

The course takes about an hour to an hour and a half to play. It’s open to all ages and skill levels, though a bit more challenging than some courses. All proceeds directly benefit First Tee – Aiken and the USC Aiken golf program, supporting youth development, student-athlete growth, and the continued impact of the game in our community.
