Their Story
On April 26, 1951, Sam Bogo opened the Monetta Drive-In with a screening of the MGM musical, “Nancy Goes to Rio.” The drive-in had one screen and could accommodate 220 cars with individual speakers attached to each vehicle. Admission was 40¢ plus tax with children under 12 admitted free. The Big Mo was a first of it’s kind in this community.
April 21, 1967, after over eleven months of closure, the drive-in reopens under new management as the Bogo family turned over the operation of the theater to the Warren family. In 1986, the theatre closed again. In 1998, Richard and Lisa Boaz purchased the property from Mrs. Bogo and reopened the theatre on March 26, 1999 with a double feature of “The Wizard of Oz” and “Blast from the Past.” The second screen was added in 2005 and the third screen was added in 2011. The giant peach was built to house the digital projector on the Main Field in 2014.
