Lookaway Inn is the only venue in North Augusta that combines a historic property with a modern space. In addition to the main house, Camellia at Lookaway is a beautiful ballroom venue adorned with high-end finishes with a conservatory feel, flooded with natural light, and set back in the Inn’s camellia gardens. This building has its own catering kitchen and private restrooms and can accommodate 120 people—perfect for small to mid-size guest lists.
#FunFact Summertime brings beautiful blooms to Camellia at Lookaway Inn. Agapanthus, also known as African Lily, Lily of the Nile, or Star of Bethlehem, are quite showy this time of year with their beautiful purple trumpet-shaped blossoms.
History
Listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Originally named Lookaway Hall, it was completed in 1898 as the home of Walter Jackson, brother of James U. Jackson, founder of North Augusta. This house is a fine local example of the Beaux Arts style. As family tradition holds, it was named “Lookaway” for the expansive view from the porch. In 1936, Dr. Henry G. and Lillie Mealing bought the property from Walter Jackson’s daughter-in-law. Although some changes have been made over the years, the architectural integrity of the home has been maintained. Lillie Mealing was famous for the prize-winning orchids and camellias she grew in her greenhouses at Lookaway. John and Mary Felak now own and operate Lookaway as an inn.
