Historic North Augusta
Historic North Augusta – Chartered in 1906, North Augusta includes the sites of two early towns: Campbelltown, a pre-revolutionary trading post and Hamburg, a terminus of the early S.C. Railroad. Several properties within North Augusta are listed on the National Register of Historic Places. One such is the Star of Edgefield on Butler Avenue (featured in photo). Built in 1860 and sports elaborate ironwork by a foundry in New Orleans. The matching fence was in route from New Orleans by a “blockade runner” during the Civil War when it was sunk by a Union gunboat.
