Downtown Denmark showcases its rich culture with every step. As you walk through Downtown Denmark, you may notice several dogwood flower murals and etchings along walkways and roadways. Denmark hosts their annual Dogwood Festival each April to celebrate the beginning of spring.
Denmark was home to the late Jim Harrison, a well-known artist and writer. His work is chronicles earlier 20th century rural life and represents the spirit of agrarian society. Enjoy Jim Harrison Square, an award winning greenspace dedicated to the late artist or visit the Jim Harrison Gallery which has bronzes, etchings and a variety of limited and unlimited edition reproductions from his career. Continue your way through downtown to get a taste of Mennonite culture with Wee Bake Bakery. In the 1960’s, the wonderful climate and natural beauty of Thoroughbred Country attracted several Mennonite families from the western United States. Many of them settled in and around Denmark.
Denmark also has several stores for your shopping pleasure. Choose from an old time five and dime store, an antique store in a building with a history all its own or a hardware store that has been locally owned for generations.
