Historic Marker for Aiken Institute. The Aiken Institute was chartered in 1888. The main building was designed in 1891, includes a wing added in 1913. It was the second oldest school in use in the state when it closed in 1986. The 1913 wing became the Aiken County Public Library in 1990.
