#FunFact
Did you know that the Barnwell County Museum was once the home of a mayor? It’s true, this historic building was originally the residence of Mayor C.G. Fuller and his wife, Effie Mae.

Originally from Ohio, the Fullers moved to Barnwell in the 1920’s. During this time, C.G. Fuller created a fortune as a contractor in the road paving business. He was elected mayor in 1932 and went on to lead many New Deal projects in the area as chairman of the local WPA. He purchased and donated multiple properties that would later become Fuller Park and Sweetwater Country Club.

With no children of their own, the Fullers gave back to the community by establishing the C.G. Fuller Foundation, which provides college scholarships to South Carolina students and supports several local organizations. In the 1950’s the Fullers donated their home to become the Barnwell Library. When a new library was later built, the building was repurposed as the Barnwell County Museum.
